This five-day workshop is for professional artists who work with space,
performance, dance, design or live art. The workshop explores the tension
between the polished displays of Tate Modern and the back-of-house areas,
and involves theoretical and practical sessions. The participants create
site-specific performances in various locations within the gallery that lead
to a final public performance.
The workshop is led by award-winning choreographer and artistic director of
the seven sisters group, Susanne Thomas; dramaturgical advisor Phoebe von
Held; and designer Sophie Jump. An experimental, cross-disciplinary approach
to contemporary dance has enabled the seven sisters group to establish their
position as one of UK's leading site-specific performance companies.

One dance, executed simultaneously on all floor levels of the store, aiming to suspend the familiar routine and giving a glimpse into another, more personal side of the otherwise well-known image of the formal shop assistant.

The new site-specific performance project by seven sisters group, created for the unique woodland setting of Newlands Corner, Guildford.
Drawing an adult audience into the woodland dusk and away from the comfort and familiarity of the theatre, seven sisters group tap into the darker veins that run deep within our ideas of primeval longing and angst. Mysterious, sensual and haunting, THE FOREST blends dance, sound and visual imagery on an unsettling journey that walks the borderline between fiction and reality.
seven sisters group are renowned for their ability to transform familiar settings and ideas into captivating and memorable performance experiences that engage all the senses.
"Vivid memories guaranteed" (The Times)
'You step between the first trees and then you are no longer in the open air; the woods swallow you up. Once you are inside, you must stay there, for there is no clue to guide you through in perfect safety.
The trees stir with a noise like taffeta skirts of women who hunt round hopelessly for the way out. Piercingly, now, there comes again the call of the bird, as desolate as if it came from the last bird left alive.
I walk through the wood until all its perspectives converge upon a darkening clearing; as soon as I see them, I know that all its occupants have been waiting for me; with the endless patience of wild things, come alive from the desire of the woods.'
(With credit to A. Carter)
The performance takes place when darkness falls. Audience numbers are strictly limited. Early booking is advised.
A minibus to Newlands Corner will run between a local railway station and the performance site at a cost of £1
each way. Please book a seat when you book your ticket. For detailed information contact the box office.
