ballroom
The Royal Festival Hall, London commissioned BALLROOM as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2001.
Six distinguished contemporary dancers from seven sisters group are joined by local ballroom dancers to set the dance floor in motion. The piece plays with clichés and stereotypes of ballroom dancing, conjuring up the tender, funny, embarrassing or sensual moments we have all experienced along the way, but above all it celebrates the fun, romance and pleasure of dancing together.
BALLROOM is very flexible regarding the performance site. It works well in indoor spaces with style, atmosphere or history or in an outdoor location that contrasts the glamour of the piece. An education programme can run alongside the programme, incorporating local ballroom dancers into the performance.
